Important Patient Information: GLP-1 Weight Management Medication.
You may have heard about GP practices prescribing GLP-1 medications (like tirzepatide, also known as Mounjaro) for weight loss. However, please note that our practice is following guidance from the local NHS Integrated Care Board (ICB), which currently advises against prescribing these medications in general practice.
If you might be eligible for this treatment, you will need to be referred to the Healthy You weight management service for a full assessment.
Am I eligible for a referral?
You may qualify for a referral if:
• Your BMI is 40 kg/m² or above,
or 37.5 kg/m² or above if you are from a South Asian, Chinese, other Asian, Middle Eastern, Black African, or African-Caribbean background,
AND
• You have at least FOUR of the following diagnosed conditions:
Type 2 diabetes
High blood pressure requiring medication
Heart or blood vessel disease (e.g., previous heart attack, stroke, or narrowed arteries)
Obstructive sleep apnoea (requiring treatment such as a CPAP machine)
High cholesterol or other blood fat issues needing treatment
What should I do if I think I qualify?
If you believe you meet these criteria, please contact the surgery to discuss a referral to the Healthy You service. Our clinical team will review your eligibility and guide you through the next steps.
Thank you for your understanding as we follow NHS and ICB guidance to ensure you receive the best possible care.
