Travel Vaccinations

Do you need Travel vaccinations?

Our Practice Nurses are fully trained to provide advice regarding routine immunisations for travelling abroad, general advice about keeping yourself healthy whilst travelling and can advise you where to go for additional immunisations that are not available on the NHS.

Please arrange an appointment for a travel consultation ideally at least 6-8 weeks before departure if possible. Vaccines need time to take effect and some additional immunisations may require a course over several weeks.

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to complete a travel questionnaire. These are either available at the Practice or to download via our website.   travel form available here

The following travel vaccines are free on the NHS:

Tetanus (given as combined diphtheria/tetanus/polio)

Polio (given as combined diphtheria/tetanus/polio)

Diphtheria (given as combined diphtheria/tetanus/polio)

Typhoid

Hepatitis A

We will also check if you are up to date with your MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella)

Vaccines not available on the NHS:

Hepatitis B

Japanese encephalitis

Meningitis vaccines

Tick-born encephalitis

Tuberculosis

Yellow fever

Malaria tablets

Where do I get my travel vaccines?

After submitting a travel risk assessment form, you will be booked in for a telephone appointment consultation with one of our practice nurses. The practice nurse will check if your existing vaccinations are up to date and discuss your destination and itinerary.

During the telephone appointment the practice nurse will give you a general advice about any travel vaccinations and travel health required for your trip. After the telephone appointment you will have an overview of the vaccines required for your trip both (NHS vaccines and vaccines not available on NHS).

The practice nurse will then book you a 20 minute face-to-face appointment where they will give you the NHS travel vaccines and health advice required for your trip.

To have travel vaccines which are not available on NHS you will be advised to book an appointment at a Private vaccination/travel clinic or a pharmacy offering travel health advice.
